Scott and Julie Brusaw, came up with an idea that just could change the way we collect energy as well and use our roadways for more than just driving on.
They started a company called Solar Roadways which proposes a solar panel that is tough enough to handle traffic running over it and is easy to install. Including LED lighting that can dynamically be programmed to show lanes, signs or dangerous conditions ahead as well as heating elements that could keep the roads, walkways and playgrounds snow and ice free, these panels spark the imagination in their versatility.
Not surprisingly, Scott has turned to crowd funding to take his concept to the next level. With the Indiegogo campaign period ending on June 20, 2014, they were able to raise $2.2 million, 220% of their original goal of $1 million. It will be interesting to see where this funding will take them…
The possibilities are endless – Just to start, I was thinking of the schools with solar covered parking structures – how about all black top and parking lots being covered with solar panels that can be walked on, used to help direct traffic and create dynamic playground lines.
What can you think up?
